    Default Blastocyst

I am just wondering what other peoples experience with having a day 5 blastocyst transfer has been. we are using PGD and having the embryos biopsied once they reach blast. I have had three cycles now each resulting in about 8 fertilized eggs but only 2 or 3 (or none in the case of our second cycle) making it to day 5.

    what have others experienced?

    Hi Bek81,

I have had day 5 blastocysts transferred for both my cycles, one fresh and the other frozen. The IVF clinic we went through in canberra only do day 5 blasts because so many don't make it past day 3. This means you get less in number but they have more chance in achieving a BFP. I haven't had PGD though and i'm sure that does affect the number that survive to day 5. BTW, our second cycle with the FET was successful and resulted in my baby boy.
    Good Luck!

I had 6 FET - they were day 3. All BFN
So we go for broke and have one more FET with two day 3 and finally BFP and twins.

Yeah I have to keep reminding my self of that.....If only we could get to a transfer. 3 cycles but only 1 transfer...cylce two none of them made it to blast. cycle three 2 blast suitable for PGD 1 came back with the gene and one was inconclusive

Out of 8 stims (approx 64 mature eggs) we made 1 early blast (stim #7 - BFN). Most of our transfers were day 5 morulas, including the last transfer when I got my first ever BFP with 2 x day 5 morulas. Both implanted!! now 24 wks and things are looking fine.
Some clinics will biopsy embies on day 3 for PGD and be able to do a fresh transfer on day 5. With that method you don't need to pass the blastocyst hurdle. We didn't do PGD.
