She had to have an open hip reduction and osteotomy - because it wasnt found after birth - she couldnt walk after a night of dancing at a wedding so thats when i knew something was up!
Her hip joint is perfect now but the bone will always grow slower because of damage during surgery (not damage as such but just un natural reconstruction etc) so she will have a check up every 2 years until she is 16. She has 3 pins that will stay in forever and her scar is about 10cms long and is hardly visable anymore!

There is a fantastic support group on facebook and a series of 'how to' i think on youtube which show you how to carry, change nappies etc.

I am wondering about her bones too. Her foot is significantly smaller on that side, I guess it will never eally catch up?

Mummyrissa, did she walk with a limp before she was diagnosed? DD's looks to be quiet severe judging by the xrays. Her pevis is very different on that side too.

Its called developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) - something like that! I would link the page but i can only access internet on my phone at the moment.

DD didnt have a noticable limp but after she was diagnosed i could see it. I felt soooo guilty about it but she was in no pain. I often wonder what will happen with it as she grows but guess time will tell!

I don't have any experience with your exact situation but my son has had hip surgery for another reason and it is terrifying to say the least. What surgery is she having done? Is this at the Mater?

Good luck. It is very daunting

My son had an osteotomy along with a few other things so I can only really help with that side of things. Hope everything goes well.

Thankyou, yeah and I really scared. Really hoping they can move the appointment too. How was his recovery?
