Default Anyone using a hearing aid?

I'm a bit depressed tonight. I always knew my hearing had deteriorated over the years, and I've suffered with tinnitus for 7+ years, but I didn't think that it was bad enough at my age (I'm 35) to need a hearing aid.

Is there anyone else out there that uses an aid? Can you tell me that it is awesome, and that I won't even notice it after a while?

    aww babe.
I have lost all hearing in one ear and am now at 40% of the other ear.

I am about to try an aid but am on the list for a stapedectomy (sp?) in one ear and then after 6 months, the other.

It is so isolating and i had some real dark days when I realised how bad it was.
I will be 100% deaf by the end of the year.

One of my good friends has an aid and says its truely awesome.

    Hi there,

I worked in a hearing clinic for a couple of years, Hearing loss is truly awful and isolating and I feel for anyone that does suffer from it. But am happy to say that there are such a variety of aids out there now. They do take a little while to adjust to however once you are use to them they are great. Enjoy your new world you will be amazed at what you will hear.

Ish, I'm so sorry to hear that. My loss isn't nearly as bad as that - I feel bad for whining now. Especially as my loss was self inflicted by going clubbing in my younger days. The motorcycle probably didn't help either.

I hope the surgery goes well for you.

I'm just hoping that I've got some medical cover. I've just noticed that there is a 3 year waiting period with my new health fund, and I'm not sure whether my old fond had any cover. I can't believe that the cost is so high.

And thanks fichicken. Other than the stigma of having to use aids I am looking forward to the (hopefully huge) improvements.
