And apparently religion and politics have nothing to do with each other in this country....pffft

All Campbell Newman has done is appease religious groups from the second he got in

I'm going to go against the grain and say I can see the merits for a de facto couple waiting two years but as for single sex couples and same sex couples being banned that is preposterous!!! What century are we in????

can i clarify - so say I wanted to be a surrogate for a same sex couple I couldn't? (totally in theory - I think surrogates are amazing but I couldn't do it)

Genuine question - can I ask why you would be against a defacto couple with less than 2 years together, but would be ok with a single person with no partner at all?

I heard this today and felt appalled and ashamed! I can't believe in the year 2012 in a country that prides itself on diversity; narrow, small minded people still make all the rules!

fair point. Probably from a stability perspective - you don't want an important person coming and going from a child's life. But as I suppose this could happen with a single person dating it prob invalidates my original thought.

... but... so... how could they stop that?

If someone wants to be a surrogate - privately arranged. Via ivf or however - births baby and then nominates the couple to legally adopt the baby...? which stage does the government step in and say "ahem you can't do that?"
