    I'm going to go against the grain and say I can see the merits for a de facto couple waiting two years but as for single sex couples and same sex couples being banned that is preposterous!!! What century are we in????

    can i clarify - so say I wanted to be a surrogate for a same sex couple I couldn't? (totally in theory - I think surrogates are amazing but I couldn't do it)

    Genuine question - can I ask why you would be against a defacto couple with less than 2 years together, but would be ok with a single person with no partner at all?

    I heard this today and felt appalled and ashamed! I can't believe in the year 2012 in a country that prides itself on diversity; narrow, small minded people still make all the rules!

    fair point. Probably from a stability perspective - you don't want an important person coming and going from a child's life. But as I suppose this could happen with a single person dating it prob invalidates my original thought.

    If someone wants to be a surrogate - privately arranged. Via ivf or however - births baby and then nominates the couple to legally adopt the baby...? which stage does the government step in and say "ahem you can't do that?"
