Maybe the teacher is a BH member and is sitting back laughing right now.

    Or maybe......

She catches some frogs and marks them... then returns them... then catches some more frogs and sees how many are marked and uses that as a percentage of the total...

so say: she caught 6 the first time..
and 7 the second time, but 6 she recognised... you could have an equation like this>

    total/6 = 7/6... so the total equals 6x7/6= 7...

or maybe 6/7 frogs were recognised... so that's 85% recapture rate... which means that there is only 15% not recognised.... which is the 7th frog....

Argh it's too late for this!

OMG, DS has her (school) email address! They do some homework by email. Actually I'll check to see if by some miracle she emailed the answer..... Oh crap, I can't remember his password! Bugger it! Oh well, I'll try my best to find this other teacher tomorrow morning and ask.

That idea sounds quite reasonable - for year 9 - well beyond what would be expected of year 4.

You're going to hate me- but I didn't chase up the teacher this morning because it was pouring rain and I had no umbrella, so just dropped the kids and left. Then this arvo their dad is picking them up and having them overnight... so I won't get the opportunity to ask until tomorrow arvo! I will update ASAP.

Email her! The school should be able to give you the address. I'm sure she will appreciate the urgency!
