Great thread, we've been tossing up between the two as well. DH has an ipad but the durability of the leappad was a positive. THEN I spotted the new ipad case like the iphone one CLICK! Has anyone bought one? Kinda swayed back to an ipad now, decisions decisions!!!

I would go with the iPad. My daughter has one for school, they are doing a 1:1 iPad program for the preps and it's been great for them.

Like others have said most apps are free, or if not free they are really quite cheap. An iPad will also see your child through several years of use and you'll definitely get your money's worth!

I would look into an android tablet - we have an iPad but they don't support flash which means DS can't use it for Reading Eggs or Mathletics, both of which are necessary at his school.

We ended up buying him a small laptop which is less expensive and slightly more durable.

There is an app called 'rover' which is free and you can use reading eggs/mathletics etc through that app! DD uses reading eggs/literacy planet/ mathletics at school and the school suggested the rover app to get around the flash issue.
