    Default 18 month old slapping

My 18 month old son has started slapping (gently) my face, he has started to do it to the other children at childcare too. Im horrified that he's doing this as he's usually so gentle and loving. When he slaps me i take both of hands and say 'No, you dont hurt mummy, that hurt mummy' Is this the right thing to say? is it just a stage he's going through? Any other advice on how i can stop this behaviour?

My 17 month old does the same thing however she only hits me!

I do the same thing as you and if I'm holding her I put her down.

Otherwise don't really know what to do about it! Hopefully someone has the answer.

    Good luck

DS 14 months is always slapping people. He thinks it's funny. I taker his hands and say "ouch, that hurts mummy" (or whoever he slapped). I also show him how to touch gently too. I try not to make a huge deal about it because DH gets pretty stroppy and it just makes him laugh.
