Default Toys for 8-12 month olds - what was your baby's favourite toy?

As a spin-off to the toy sales thread, I am going to be hitting all of the toy sales in the next few weeks to lay-by toys for Christmas.

I am a first time mummy and I have no idea what toys I should buy for DD who will be 8 months at Christmas. Her birthday is in April so I am looking to buy toys for her for when she is 8-12 months old.

So... what was your baby's favourite toy/s at that age?

Honestly? Apart from books, the only "regular" toy was saucepans and wooden spoons. She had a whole room full of toys and would barely touch them, instead preferred the pots and pans.

DD is 10mo and her favourite toy at the moment is a pack of cards! she loves taking them out of the packet and flicking them around, sliding them across the tiles and chasing after them. Occupies her for ages! Also unpacking is a favourite pastime at the moment - like a bucket of toys, the DVD shelf, my handbag or nappy bag.

She also loves pop-up toys that she can close/push down, anything with spinning parts, musical toys and balls.

Oh yes, books! She loooooves books. I keep a cardboard book with different textures on the pages (fluffy cats, bumpy snails) in the nappy bag for grumpy moments. She loves turning the pages and feeling the textures.

DD just turned 1 and she loves musical toys like shakers and drums, books, little people(fisher price) cars, blocks anything we can do together really but her fav has to be the cozy coope she climbs in and we will push her or she will stand behind and use it as a walker.

She also likes the sandpit/ballpit and her ride on toys

DD is almost 10mths and loves interactive things - buttons and music and voices, things that they can push and listen or push and move.

My DS2 wasn't interested in toys or books at that age. Mostly just in utensils and cups from the kitchen, and other random stuff.
