I'm paying $185 week for rent ($370 fortnight), $60 fortnight goes on electricity bill (pay it fortnightly and I'm in credit), $100 towards misc expenses per fortnight, $100 fortnight on groceries and I try and put some extra into savings.
I also pay the insurance on my car each month there's another $90. And running expenses.

I get the SPP, FTB A & B and no rent assistance (Not sure why?)
I have a private child support agreement with ex. He pays the loan on the car I drive and puts $200 per fortnight into the kids account for nappies ect. He is getting out of it cheaper that way but it's working ok so far.

I start studying soon and once I've completed my certificate I will be able to find a decent paying job.

If I was paying more then say $250 per week in rent I would definately be struggling more then I am now.

    Hi,

I am currently paying $320 per week. I get SPP, FTB A/B and RA. I'm currently studying full-time and at the moment I'm not working due to cut backs.

It is hard. Very hard actually, especially like a PP said when bills come in, it's near impossible. I have recently applied for NRAS eligibility and just got approval this morning and thank gosh because I would never get a rental through a normal real estate agent now.

    Have you looked at NRAS?

NRAS is a national scheme whereby if you meet certain requirements you can rent in the private market with a 20% reduction on the market value of the rent per week. It's a great alternative to the long waiting lists for social housing.

That's really interesting. Is it hard to qualify? What state are you in?

Pretty sure this is saying single parents aren't eligible...
We are eligible and neither work in those industries.
Dh works for a car dealership and I'm a SAHM.

I qualify... Was 'approved' by Dept of Housing in my state but haven't actually applied for any of the available properties in my area because to date there have been no 2 bedders.

I'm in QLD and nope not hard. I filled out a form to see if I was eligible, did an online form and got an email and letter saying yes I was approved.

That is not the same info that I read on the QLD Housing site. Where did you find that? I'm a single parent and I'm only using centrelink payments now that I'm not working at the moment and I got approved.

Single parents are eligible, they are also there for ANYONE on low income within certain limits set by NRAS. I have just applied for the NRAS programme as I would like to move from my parents place
