    Default Becoming a Foster Carer

I am considering becoming a foster carer. However, at this stage what is holding me back is worry about how this will impact on my children. They are 2 and 3. I worry that a child who comes into my care may be violent and hurt them. I also worry about finances. My husband earns good money but I get worried its not enough to support more children.

But I would love to bring happiness and joy into a childs life.

I would love any advice from anyone who is a foster carer please

Did you decide to look into the process more of fostering? Or have you put it on the backburner for a little while?

If you obtain an information pack it will let you know a lot of Information, also it says that children that come into your care have to be a minimum of 2 years younger then your youngest, so if your youngest is 2 then you will be only able to take a young baby. This may of changed but that's how it worked a few years ago in the nsw system :-)

In my opinion (and please remember it is just an opinion) if you are concerned about finances do more research and make sure you can afford it. I wouldnt want to not be able to afford to look after my kids because I have taken more in- do you know what I mean?

I haven't looked any further yet. I just don't know where to start...

Thanks for all the replies. I will have another look into it and figure out if it is a plausable idea for us. Hopefulmumma2B I completely agree with you, I don't want to find ourselves unable to manage finances.

Google Barnardo's they used to have loads of info. Or there used to a programme called Aunts and Uncles where you had a child for a weekend monthly or fortnightly. Could be a good place to start to see how that fits in with your family.
