Can you speak to defense housing (I think it's Toll now?) and see if there's even a slightly better area you could go? Or if they can install some security measures?

When I was a newborn we were posted in puckapunyal and all of mum's family was in brisbane. Dad was away all the time and the house we lived in was condemned and knocked down after we left (posted to Townsville). As dad moved up the ranks we got better housing but it must have been horrid for mum during those early years!
Everywhere in Townsville is pretty bad for property crime ATM. They won't do additional security because it's not in their policies. DHA are not in my good books at the present time.

There's such a huge disparity from place to place with housing for defence personnel. My mum works for DHA/Toll in NSW and some of the things people demand are outrageous! And then there are people in your situation who should be getting more assistance! Mum hates that job and finds it so difficult dealing within all the policies.

To help with your isolation, is getting your licence an option for you at the moment? Then you could access the facilities on the base?

DHA are a complete joke. I think we could make a new thread on how bad they are. At least in Raymond Terrace they added security grills to the windows but i think that was the owners of the house.

We have defense housing close by and have not had any break-ins or property damage in this area for over a year. I live in Townsville.

What part of Townsville are you in? Kelso, Condon, Kirwan and Rassmussen are the worst for crime and Currajong and Vincent aren't far behind.

We didn't know we were in a high crime area until we were broken into. Then we found out the house next door, the one on the corner, across the street, all been done over plenty of times since we moved here last year.

I'm going for my Ps on the 29th, I'm hoping I can arrange a spouse pass for the base in the short time DH is home.

This might be different but for the RAAF I've had an ID from when we first got married. I'm young and skinny! So definately look into that more. Having your own car and transport will help alot.
