We bought my niece a tony sabo charm bracelet and a meaningful charm... Now it's something we can add to for her for Xmas and or special events.

The bracelet was more leather strap type thing rather than a heavy chunky bracelet if that makes sense... :/ Google it haha.

She also got iTunes cards for her iPod, diva vouchers, books and her own cooking things as she loves to bake.

She's so fussy, every piece of jewellery anybody has ever given her, nobody has ever seen her wear it. like, not even once.. and we do ALOT as a family.. so im sure someone would have noticed their gifts on her.. my MIL even bought her a pair of diamond studs, and she refused to wear them. i'd give my back teeth to wear them. lol.

if she's fussy maybe a gift card for target where she can get whatever she wants, music, dvds, clothes etc. you could maybe give it to her and say you will take her to spend it and have a girly shopping trip with lunch as a birthday treat.

My DD turned 11 in April & her favorite gift was a leather bound journal & nice pen.
Does your niece have any hobbies?

What kind of 12 yr old is she? When I was 12 I wanted nothing to do with jewellery, dresses or anything girly.

A nice journal that maybe looks a bit more grown up than a babyish one.

DVDs are usually great presents if you know what type of movies she likes.

    Books if she's into them.

A bag but you might want to take her shopping if you want her to use it.

In fact perhaps just offer to take her shopping with a set amount to spend and you can grab lunch together as well

Lush products or Body Shop products, (obviously ones suited to 12 year olds), I know at twelve I was starting to want lotions and potions.

Movie vouchers, JB HI FI voucher, I Tunes voucher.

A nice dressing gown or bath robe.

Surf wear acessories, Billabong, Roxy, (hats, scarves, beach towels, back packs etc).
