    Default Divorce question ?

    Hi all

Not sure if this is in the right section or not so mods please move it if you like.

I received my divorce order from the federal magistrates court today, can I just use this as proof of divorce when changing my name etc or will I need to apply to births, deaths, marriages for a certificate ?

I'm pretty sure I had to change back to my maiden name with births, deaths and marriages with the divorce paper as proof. Then with the new certificate I was able to change my name.

Yeah you have to get a new BD&M certificate.

Weird story - I just changed my name into my married name, and they made me get a new birth certificate with my MARRIED name on it. So now it look like DH and I are related by birth! Gotta love those bureaucrats.

Wow, really? I went back to my maiden name before I was even divorced. I just went into dept of transport and explained, got a new licence with my old name on it then used that to change my name everywhere else. I've never gotten a certificate from BD&M.

It can depend on what state you are in but you should still be able to use your birth certificate, marriage certificate and divorce paperwork to revert back to your maiden name. These three forms show the links with your names.

If departments and/or companies request a change of name certificate or for it to appear on your birth certificate then contact BDM of your state.
