Mispronunciation of place/city names drive me bonkers.

    Two of the main culprits?

    Launceston - its LON-ceston people, not LAWN-ceston!!!

Devonport - pronounced phonetically! davenport is a brand of boxer shorts!

"Wet your appetite" should be "whet your appetite".

"Literally" is often misused, with amusing results... "I literally died", "I was literally climbing the walls", "His head literally blew up". No dear, no.

And I know it's been said, but it's worth saying again. "Irregardless"? OMG.

ETA: One that really gets me is the Americanism "I could care less", instead of "I couldn't care less". Do they realise what they're saying?!
Lambjam, I too have always wondered why Americans say "I could care less", among other things. This video is for people like us :

There is a town in New Zealand that everyone mispronounces (including the locals deliberately).

It is Whakatangi - and correct Maori pronounciation is FUK-uh-TUNG-EE but since that sounds rude in English, everyone mispronounces in WOK-uh-TANG-EE instead.

When I was a child, I got a new book as a present - and I read the story of Penelope Plum, but silly me read it as PEN-el-LOHP Plum. I thought it was such a wierd name, until someone corrected me.

I remember reading The Children of Cherry Tree Farm and wondering about the strange name of the little girl called "Pen-e-lowp"
