I find it strange though that they never contacted me as a reference? Shouldn't they do a background check of some sort?
They don't always call references and sometimes they will only call one.
With my application they only ever called one friend.

Im glad it got sorted! My sister works at centrelink, and they have a 4 week processing average wait atm! It sucks when its an emergency, but she will get backpaid to the original dates.

I gor PPS for the first time 3 years ago and they sent letters to my 2 references- they only had a couple of days to reply- a brief statement stating I had split from my ex and why.

The PPS payment was granted immediately- but I was warned that if the referee reports weren't returned and they didn't back up my claims the payments would be cut. The FTB took about 3-4 weeks and was backpaid.

Good to see it has improved. I got an initial payment of $500 a fn after dd was born, then PPS took nearly 3 months. I was still ringing 8 weeks after lodging the from then when they said it has been looked at, it still took another fn before it made it to my account. Looked like a lot of money, but I had to pay back rent money, food money and fuel money. Thankfully I was using cloth nappies and breastfeeding. I'd never been on their system before, they said that was the hold up. Talk about punishing those who had never been out of work before :/
