Default Do you have a 3DS, Playstation Vita or similar? Need recommendations for DS present.

Hi there, I am looking at buying my almost 6 year old DS a handheld console. e currently has a Leapster Explorer which he loved, but has outgrown it. He has played his Uncles iPad and has asked for one for his birthday but I am thinking this is slightly excessive lol. Does anyone have any suggestions please? I thought about the Leap Pad, but it seems much the same as the Explorer.

Please help! Running out of time...

We bought SD a DS for her 6th birthday... An iPod touch for her 7th birthday... All of my nieces and nephew have DS's and iPod touches and are between 4yrs and 9yrs.

I think iPod touch is great as it has so many more apps than just games for DS... And you can get more educational fun apps IMO.

We will probably get her an iPad for this birthday as she also uses them at school!

I have a nintendo DSI for my self.
    I love it!
I do most of my games on my iPad iPhone now, But for a 6yo I think the nintendo's are great.
We bought my nephew one (he is 7) for Xmas last year.
He requested games for it for his birthday this year so I'm guessing he loves it too

I also think you need to compare the cost of the DS and the games against the cost of an Ipad/Ipod. An ipad/pod may be most cost effective in the long run IYKWIM.

My kids are 4 and 7. They have a DSi and 3DS, an ipod, psp and an android tablet.
The DS's win over the PSP. I think nintendo is typically more kid/family friendly in their games as well.
It's probably a tie between ipod, table computer and DS. So i think any of those could do.
I wouldn't be buying a leap pad personally. i think by the age of 6, kids are somewhat over that sort of stuff.

Excellent, thankyou everyone!! A DS it is . We might get a tablet/ipad when bub arrives later in the year as a "family gift".
