I'm guessing your a single mama too- if so then nope we cant claim for anything through this as its for school students only (so not for uni, tafe or college type students) and we also arent entitled to the government/centrelink start up or education scholarships which is what the PP is talking about I think.... not really a lot of assistance to help sole parents with their own education costs!

Mines showing up. Say I usually get 320 a fortnight.

It was showing as "$320 + $409" the other day.

It shows up now as "$729"

    I get paid tomorrow.

Hi everyone, my name is Rahul and I work for the Australian Government Department of Human Services responding to questions about Centrelink on forums like this one. Just wanted to clarify a few things as there have been a number of queries about the SchoolKids Bonus!

As part of the transition to the Schoolkids Bonus, a one-off Education Tax Refund payment will be made between 20 and 29 June 2012. This payment replaces the refund you would usually get from the Australian Taxation Office after lodging your tax return.

It’s important to note that if you’re eligible, the one-off transitional payment will be automatically paid into your nominated bank account. You don’t need to make an actual claim for this payment.

You’ll receive up to $409 for each child in primary school and up to $818 for each child in secondary school. Families who have shared care arrangements for their children will receive their shared care percentage of this amount.

If you claim Family Tax Benefit at the end of the financial year as a lump sum, your one-off transitional payment will be paid when your claim is assessed.

There's lots more information about eligibility at the following link:
    http://www.humanservices.gov.au/cust...hoolkids-bonus

Also at the following link, you'll find some common FAQs that may be useful:

    http://www.families.fahcsia.gov.au/our-responsibilities/families-and-children/benefits-payments/schoolkids-bonus/question-and-answers-education-tax-refund-payment-and-schoolkids-bonus

To clarify specific eligibility criteria, you can also call the Families and Parents Line on 13 6150 (always best to call early just after 8am to avoid extended call wait times). You can also call us on or after 1 July if you don’t receive an Education Tax Refund payment in June and think you may be eligible.

Hope that helps and answers some questions

Hi Rahul. Is there any information regarding the kids who did their hsc last year and are now 18 and on youth allowance/working. Are they still eligible and when will the payments be made for them. I have rung the parents line but the lady I spoke to said there was no info on the screen.

How does the government know to split the payment between parents? My DF and his ex share custody of their son 50/50 but there is no formal custody arrangement in place. The only place that is notified is child support.

Who gets the ftb part a ? I'm assuming that whoever gets that payment will get the school bonus payment.

Hi onionskin, the Education Tax Refund Payment may be payable in such circumstances (as I didn't mention Youth Allowance Students in my previous post). There's information specific to this under "Eligibility" at the the following link:

    http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/information/schoolkids-bonus

If a payment hasn't been received by 29 June it would be good idea to call up to query eligibility.
