My child is already in primary school – do I need to let Centrelink know?

If your child is turning six by 31 July 2013 or older, you will be automatically eligible for the Schoolkids Bonus. This is because in all states, children this age will have started school.

Families with children younger than six will receive a letter later this year about how to let the Centrelink know that your child has already started school so you can get the Schoolkids Bonus in January.

Thanks for the replies everyone Does anyone know if it goes through with the normal FTB payment or is a separate payment - will it show up on centrelinks online services? Thanks

I have a son that is 5 this month, so will be 6 but the july 31 2013 cut off. Does that mean I'll get money for him this year too, or only next year?

it's very deceptive though, it's just the usual payment you can claim for education expenses at tax time, so it's not an extra for us, just 2 or so months early.

Hmmm wonder if that means I will get half of one for my step son who we have 50% custody of?

We seem to miss out on a lot of the bonus payments for him, despite absolutely everything for him being split down the middle cost and time wise.
