Default Myths about colds and flus that annoy you.

So cold and flu season is upon us and nothing gets my goat more then people still living in the 30s with their advice on how to deal with them. Now Im not talking about old fashioned herbal stuff your granny used to do that might actually work but stuff thats just plain stupid.

    Here is an example -
You have to dress DS real warm because he will get sicker and make sure you give him lots of hot drinks....yes what a brilliant idea lets give a 2 year old with a temp and a sore throat a hot drink so his throat can feel like its on fire and lets dress him real warm so his temp can sky rocket.

    OR
If you give him anything cold to drink or ice cream he will get sick and end up in hospital...yep

    OR
He is sick because you didnt dress him warm enough...yep it must have been because I forgot to put a singlet on him under his skivy and jacket!

    OR
There must be something wrong with his immune system wasnt he sick last year as well.....why are guns illegal.

    And you?

When people have a cold and say "Oh I've got Flu'... Once you've had flu, believe me, you'll never say that ever again!!! A cold sucks yes.. But Flu earlier this year had me practically begging to die. It was the worst illness I've ever had! I was out of action for 2 weeks and didn't feel normal for several more weeks after that.

When people take antibiotics for ANY virus. Grrrrr! Biology.. Go back to high school Biology for goodness sake!

    Yeah, pretty annoying.
my SIL still thinks all sniffles, coughs and colds are to be treated with antibiotics. And she self medicates her DD which is COMPLETELY dangerous, she gets the antibiotics on repeat and keeps them for later use. Makes me grrrrr.

Thats stupid and even more stupid are the doctors who give them out. I know a lady like this everytime her kids get sick they are on antibiotics. They only have a cold! If they are running around, playing, eating to some degree and drinking with a slight fever they do not need antibiotics.

Ha ha ha oh my god isn't it standard practice that every time your child gets sick someone will say "gee sick again? He must not eat enough fruit and vegetables." I also hate the old "you don't dress them warm enough".. or if they have had a runny nose for a few days they clearly need antibiotics?!

Oh this gets me big time. I have two friends that at the hint of a temp or a sniffle they are at the Doc quicker than look at them and on antibiotics. I'm not sure who is more irresponsible, them for taking them to the Doc or the Doc for constantly prescribing. Really really bugs me, let the kid fight something for once in their life!
