Smile Any other single parents with mental health issues?

    Hi

I have a nearly 5yr old daughter, and was diagnosed with Bipolar II after her birth. The years since she was born have been horrendous, including trauma and several moves, and managing this horrible condition. I struggle when I get unwell (which I have done a couple of times recently) and don't have much support. No family here and in a reasonably new area and one I didn't choose.

I have found people useless enough in their ability to empathise with being a single parent, let alone a single parent with a mental health issue. Finding support is hard and I am sick of trying to make people understand, then being brushed off. As if my self esteem wasn't low enough ;-)!!!

To anyone else with a similar problem - how do you manage???

    Thanks

Hi, sorry you are going through this on your own. Not sure what state you are in but do you have a Case Manager, someone that you can talk to or guide you to a support group?

    Hi there,
    yes i can definitely relate.
im a single mym to a 3yr old DS (single since day one) and i too have no real support.
im currently going through an extremely difficult time at the moment, probably the worst so far.
i suffer for extreme anxiety and depression, which causes servere insomnia which then of course makes it so much worse. its a bluddy vicious circle and hard to get out of.
last week i literally thought i was dying and couldnt see any way out.
ive currently gone onto a new medication - hopefully it works for me. the side effects are horrendous.
basically im a walking freak of anxiety and i cant function on a daily basis without medication and help.
i dont have bi-polar but i have been diagnosed with GAD, SAD, OCD & depression.. yay go me!!
ive tried several psychologists but to be honest they dont help me, i think il need to be on meds for ever. and everytime ive tried coming off medication i end up relapsing and getting worse....
im currently staying at my fathers house while he is interstate and have no idea where the hell im going to move and raise my DS.
we have moved 7 times in the past 12 months
i just want to settle somewhere, my DS needs the stability but i have no idea where to go??
it breaks my heart when i look at him, he deserves so much better....

Hi I struggle with anxiety and depression. I have a supportive mum and a couple of friends. I used to be on meds but have weaned myself off them...I cope mainly through talking to people, my church and prayer and having a routine helps too. I sometimes think my ds deserves better but there are lots of parents who struggle ,mental health issues or not. Somehow we just battle on...
