I had croup a couple of years ago and I thought too that only kids get it but the Dr said nope adults can get it too! I was given steroids for a few days and I think I needed a repeat prescription, unfortunately the cough still stays around to a certain degree for a couple of weeks but it's not the seal bark.

((hugs)) Croup is a symptom, not a condition - it is a distinctive cough from inflamed vocal cords caused by a virus.

Adults can have croup but it is rare - as generally kids get croup as their airways are narrow to start with.

I'd suggest ibuprofen to reduce the inflammation and an icypole. I'd avoid to many hot foods.

Thanks I feel a bit better this morning. I'm on 25mg of redipred twice a day and erithromyacin. So hopefully that helps

Everything viral is contagious, and anything that causes a cough is even more likely to be passed on.

    No.

Croup cough is a symptom from a viral infection.

The virus that caused the infection is contagious but if a person catches the virus off you they wont definitely get croup

Go for a drive in the cold night air,
If your breathing is comprised go to hospital

When DS gets that breathing we have been told to go to emergency. I guess it would be the same in an adult. I can't remember if you said you were on steroids or not, but it sounds like you need to get some very soon.

ETA just read back and saw that you are. I would still go to emergency if you are in real pain. Don't leave it till Monday.
