Default Recommend me a good labour and birthing book please!

One of my good friends has just texted me saying that her partner has been totally freaked out by antenatal classes run by their hospital. The partner is the one who will be giving birth.

I remember hearing on here about a good book by someone May?? I think?

Or any other you are aware of?

Thought it may be better for her to be able to get relevant labour/birthing info from a good book if she's been freaked out by all the stuff they throw at you during the hospital classes.

New active birth was a god send for me! Fantastic if you are wanting a natural drug free birth.

Do you mean Ina May Gaskin???? She has a few books. I love her Childbirth book and also Spiritual Midwifery. Also Gentle Birth Gentle Mothering by Dr Sarah J Buckley is wonderful.

Would your friend consider doing a Hypnobirth or Calmbirth course??? I did Hypnobirth and really recommend it. You learn to trust your body and the birthing process. You also do some fear releasing things that really help in your preparation.

I'd also really recommend Calmbirth or similar. "Ina May's Guide to Childbirth" by Ina May Gaskin is fantastic and helped me so much. I only read "Birth Skills" by JuJu Sandin after giving birth and hated it. So glad I didn't read it first as she had obviously had a bad birthing experience and focused overly on the pain (which I didn't find to be a big deal after doing Calmbirth). Also I know the "skills" she recommends would have hindered rather than helped my birth

I'd recommend "Birth - conceiving, nurturing and giving birth to you baby" by Catherine price & Sandra robinson. There isnt any bias, it's Australian and gives balanced information regarding your options throughout the whole baby making process

It has been my birth reference book for all three pregnancies and births

I loved 'A Labour of Love' by Gabrielle Targett

And 'Birthing From Within' by Pam England might be a good one if she's anxious.
