    Default 12 week NT scan

Hi everyone. I am due to have my 12 NT week scan next week. However i am still not sure if I should do it. It is so expensive and really can't afford to have it done. They said it would cost $350 for the scan and another $117 for the blood test. Do I really need to get it done?
Please, I need some advice as we haven't told people yet and don't want to ask my friends as then they will know before we want to tell them.

You should get a portion back from Medicare if that is helpful? I'm not sure what amount though.

You sure it costs that much? Id ask how much you get back from Medicare. I thought I was only out of pocket $80 or so but my memory could be fading. I'm sure there are places that bulk bill scans, ask around.

You could get the scan and then only get the bloods if the scan picks up something. My ob said I didn't need the bloods as my scan was perfect (I had it anyway because I'm a worrywart).

I preferred to have the scan as I'd rather know in advance if something was wrong with bub. But each to their own.

    Good luck whatever you decide..

My doctor gave me a referral to have it done through the hospital, as far as I know its all bulk billed. Perhaps you could see if that is an option?

I chose not to have the NT scan for a few reasons, cost being 1 of them.

It really depends on if you want to know how at risk you are or not. We decided that it didn't matter to us and that I'd probably only worry if it didn't come back at great odds.
