Juniper. The iui was the easiest bit of the lot!! First one didn't hurt at all, no cramps or any thing. I could feel the catheter "tickle my insides" but in no way painful.

second iui, the ovulation was pretty intense with 4 follicles, 3 mature, but the actual insem is a relaxed experience with no pain. Doc even turns the light out for 10-15 mins afterwards so you can keep the goods in there, as he says. Pretty much what Karla Allison described.

Congrats waitinghoping and arli! Hopefully it won't be too long before I'm in the same boat

They do say that after the HSG is the best time to do a cycle, as it opens the tubes and they are in prime condition for success. Not what happened in my case, but that's what I was told when I had the HSG done.

Thanks CandE. I saw the new FS yesterday & it looks like we're gonna jump straight into IVF. I feel really good about this FS & have gotten fab feedback about her & her ability to get girls pregnant- so I'm prepared to defer to her educated judgment. She said we can do iui, success rate is 10%, or IVF which is 35%.

She said that she doesn't think the IUI would add much to what were already doing ourselves, & that at 38 we have a great chance of IVF working, and that once I get to 40 the success rates plummet quite markedly- so therefore here opinion is be aggressive now while the odds are still pretty good.

So if I can get agreement from my OH, then I guess we're doing IVF, oh she mentioned that she likes to do some ICSI too. Which I think sounds like a good idea.

Juniper, awesome news that you've made a decision to go ivf. That will be our next step also. When do you think you'll start your first cycle?

Not exactly sure on timelines CandE, but from other girls I'm chatting with in a forum (all are her patients), it sound like it could be not next cycle but the following?? Apparently she moves quite fast if everything checks outbeforehand.

She said 'see u next month & hopefully we'll have everything that we need done by then'. And by that she means some standard bloods for me & OH, which I've already had last November but I don't have to pay for them so am happy to do them again. Also she said since my mum had difficulty getting pregnant (over 7 yrs b/ me & my sister) AND she had 4 m/c in the middle, that it would be smart to test me for chromosomal problems just incase. Which I think is a great idea. OH has to do another SA thru her clinic (previous one was thru GP) but she said her labs check for extra things like antibodies that might cause issues with my eggs etc.

so I guess if all the results come back ok we could start not next cycle but the following? Although I do know she likes to put most girls on melatonin for at least 4 weeks prior to IVF, so it could even be the following cycle to allow the 4 wks? We have to go for counselling too.. OH is gonna protest about that.. Haven't told him yet!

Well it sound like she is being thorough which is great! Even if it means you have to delay a cycle before starting, it would be to your benefit in the long run' even if it seems frustrating right now.

    good luck with it !!
