Did you buy a 2nd cot when your new baby arrived?

Hi I am due in Dec, DS will be 19-20 months. Do I need to buy a second cot for the new baby? DS is 13 months and not yet walking. He is in a baby sleeping bag as he is a very restless sleeper. Everytime we put him to bed he is standing up on te side if the cot before we are at his door to leave. I know theres still 6 months but I just can't imagine how him in a single bed would go. DH thinks buying another cot is a waste of money though.

Do you have a bassinet? You could use that for 6 months, or buy one.

We had the same age gap between our DS's 1 & 2 and we bought a second cot. I just got a cheaper one from Target when it was on sale - I think it was around $199 and the mattress around $60. I then sold DS1's cot when he moved into a bed at 2 1/2 and got $100 back so we weren't that much out of pocket.

For us we feel it was the best decision as we didn't want to feel we were rushing DS1 out of his cot.

There is 18 month between my two girls and we bought a cheaper, same brand ad DD1s second cot and very glad we did as we felt DD1 was not yet ready for a bed. We are now looking at beds for DD1 and when we get that sorted we will sell DD2s cot and DD2 will then get DD1s cot as it is the better quality one, and the cheaper cot is newer so will be a bit easier to sell (in saying that my cousin is now going to buy it and our changeable for her bub).

we moved DD into a single bed at 19mths old as its easier to resettle her in there (as in lie down next to her and go to sleep) vs patting/rocking etc.

now at 21mths old its great - she knows how to take off her sleeping bag in the mornings and toddle out to our room (where she demands to go potty).

I would transfer your kid to a bed just cos it gets so hard to put them in a cot when pregnant. thats why we got DD a bed.

I will have 14 months between my two so we definitely had to buy another cot. I feel like I rushed DS1 out of his cot too quickly so want DS2 to be able to be in his for a little longer. His cot also converts into a toddler bed so I can see him sleeping in it for quite a while longer.

I moved my daughter into a single bed at 20 months and after a week she was fine in there. Maybe see if you can borrow a bassinet to get a few more months for your DS in the cot if you dont feel he is ready

We have a bassinet but don't really want to use it much longer than 6 weeks as we found DS slept much better when we moved him out of it.

We used a bassinet too but both my bubs grew out of them by 4 months!

There's 2 1/2 years between my two. DS was in his cot with the side off at about 18-19 months I think. He then went to a bed when we bought DD home and has been in it for 3 months with no problems.

I second the basinet option. You can get good ones second hand and will give you a bit of breathing space. It's what we did incase DS cracked it, but he was fine.
