In regards to your shoulder pain/strain, that will always happen if you wear him facing outwards. It puts your centre of gravity out, bringing it forward because the baby is sticking out more, and you get the strain on your shoulders.
He can still see if you have a good carrier, he should be high enough that he can turn his head easily and see either side of you. Or as PP's have said, a side carry is fantastic, or a back carry (though I couldn't get the hang of this!).
Thanks everyone - CMF I think you're right, forward facing will always put more strain I guess. It's just sad since DS loves chatting to everyone!
So Baby Bunting have a sale that starts today - the entire Ergo range is 25% off, so I'll go and check the different ones out![]()
Not to try and put more stores out of business, but I got mine online from gear4baby and I think it was quite a bit cheaper than baby bunting etc. I went through the ergo website for stockists then compared all the prices, think I paid $145 with free shipping. Heaps of the (certified) online stores are pretty similar in price.

I have the Manducca which I bought from fertile mind. I think it was only $142 including postage- i signed up for an offer they had for first purchase . It is highly adjustable- which was important as DH and I are different body shapes :-). And the difference in how it feels to carry my big baby is huge compared to baby bjorn.
I didn't try them out before I purchased though. I chose Manduca as it had the option of wearing the straps crossed or just shoulder loops. They are also all organic materials. I have to admit I mostly use the crossed straps as I find the shoulder loops feel a little bit too wide for my shoulders which can feel like they might slide off.
It does take a bit of getting used to also, but is so much better.
Good luck with your decision!
Thanks everyone
Ok so I purchased the Performance this morning and we've been for our first walk around the shops.....
DS was very confused and didn't seem to like it yethe spent the whole time trying to twist his head around to face forward! I sincerely hope he'll get used to it and I didn't just waste $150!!
It was comfortable sure, but I didn't love it straight away like a lot of people have told me I would. I guess we both need to get used to a different carrier!
