Default How does a D&C effect your fertility???

I had a D&C 5 days ago, I have just stopped spotting today. I know i should have asked my doctor these questions but they were the last things on my mind at the time, and i don't see him for another 2 weeks. Can anyone help?

Can anyone tell me when you can get pregnant after a D&C, i mean when would ovulation normally occur? Will it occur before my first period arrives? Does anyone know what are the chances of concieving before first AF arrives? How many cycles does it normally take after a d&c to get pregnant? When can you get a reliable possitive on a pregnancy test?

I'm unsure if i want to try for a baby or avoid pregnancy, i change my mind daily, i just want to be aware of whats happening to my body, (normally i know exactly what i want but not anymore, i'm so confused) All i want is to be pregnant again and the sooner the better, but at the same time its my worst fear. My doctor said we can try as soon as we feel ready once the bleeding stops which it has.

Is there anything else i should know?

HiIm sorry to hear of your loss!Ive heard that straight after a d&c is the best time for conception. Not sure how true it is though. I miscarried naturally in March and am now pregnant again. I tested positive 5 days before my period was due.Honestly the best time to start trying again is when you feel ready. give yourself as much time as you need to grieve

You can conceive as soon as you ovulate, the first ovulation will be before you get a period. When your cycle returns is different for everybody, i was told after my d&c that it may take a bit longer for your cycle to return. That wasn't the case for me though as i discovered i was pregnant 4 weeks after my d&c, before my period returned, so it is very possible to fall pregnant quickly.

    Sorry about your loss

After my miscarriage in November all I wanted to do was get pregnant again, but that is just me and everyone is different.

I fell pregnant in the fourth cycle after a D&C. My cycles were irregular afterwards (29 days, 25 days, 33 days) which made it difficult to pinpoint ovulation and therefore fall pregnant so we just DTD a lot!!

    All the best.

So sorry for your loss. It's just devastating.
I had d&c last year in October... Pregnant again by February. I like you kept changing my mind about whether I wanted to try again. It was my second loss.
But I just realized one day that I couldn't let the fear of it all happening again get in the way of the chances of it all working out and having a baby at the end.
Everyone gets there on their own time. When you're ready you'll know. You'll still probably be fearful to a point but it won't override your desire to try again. At least that's how it was for me.
Hugs to you and hope all goes well in future. xo

I'm sorry to hear about your loss I had a missed miscarriage that ended with a d&c. I got pregnant before I got my next period which were regular before the miscarriage. So I would say I got pregnant within 2-3wks afterwards. I say if your emotionally ready start now.

    I'm sorry for your loss

I fell pregnant for the first time ever this year and had a missed miscarriage. I was told by several people that in the first 3 months after a D&C you're more fertile. According to Google it's actually 4-6 weeks. We started trying again when I finished bleeding but I got AF back exactly 5 weeks after the D&C. No idea when I ovulated or anything. So we're still trying...all we want is a healthy sticky baby.

    Best of luck OP
