    Default Luteal phase defect

I have been ttc for 14 months now and have suffered from irregular AF.

The last 6 months it has settled somewhat where it's at least predictable.

I've had an ultrasound and 21 day progesterone tests and all was fine.

I was thinking today though that in these last 6 months I've always spotted 2-3 PO and started AF 3-4 days after that. I googled this and think I may have luteal phase defect!

Has anyone had this and what treatments etc are available?

Vitamin B helps with LP. Just check dosage amounts especially if you are taking multi vitamins already.

Yep i've heard vitamin B6 and also vitex (or chaste berry) are good for short luteal phases. I've been taking a PMS support tablet with both these in it and it does seem to help with regulating (and also toning down the PMS symptoms). You can get it really easily from a health food store. Just go in and ask some questions and i'm sure they will help you out with something that will suit. I'm actually also going to try a chinese herb tablet that told me about last time....just gotta see if AF arrives this time. FC i'm actually pregnant!
Good luck, I hope you can find something that helps you out with this

Hi, unfortunately vitex and vit B didn't work for me, but hcg injections after o did. There is also the option of progesterone supplements.

I had a 6 day luteal phase when I started TTC. Vitamin B6 got it up to 7 days, and combined with Vitex it got up to 8 days. With 50mg Clomid it got up to 10 days, which is when my FS started taking it seriously . This month I'm on 100mg Clomid and will be using progesterone supplements as soon as I O.

Long story short: yes, there are fixes for it, and different things work for different people. Vitex and B6 might be enough for you. I'll keep my FX for you!

    AAAAGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry to rant but i am sooo cranky right now!

went and seen the dr about this and dead set she was useless!

she tried to tell me i have my oculation dates wrong, even though ive had numerous 21 day progestrone tests to prove i have the dates right!!!!! after looking at those tests results and asking me questions about urine tests, saliva tests, EWCM, she decided I do in fact know my own body!

then she tried to say that it doesnt matter that i start my AF 5 days later because it only takes 24-48 hours for the egg to implant!

THEN she tried to tell me that as soon as the egg is FERTALISED not IMPLANTED my body makes hormones to prevent my period!!!!

THEN said there was absolutely nothing she could do to extend my luteul phase!!!!!

    WTF!!!!!!

so basically ive been sent away being told to come back after trying for 2 years (its already been 15 months!!!!)

Im deflated and angry and sad and agh I just dont know what to do...

    Thanks guys,

I live in the country so unfortunately I won't be able to be too picky with specialists.

Usually can't be too picky with doctors either but I'm going to demand to be seen by a decent doctor!!!

    It's just so damn frustrating...
