    Default Speechie???

    Hi all

Couple of quick questions, DS1 has been working with a final year undergrad Speechie at his day care as part of their final year assessment program. He is slightly behind compared to the other kids in his room but is slowly but surely improving.

Student Speechie called me today to let me know next week is their final week at the kindy and they would recommend he continue the therapy either privately it through the public system.

Where do I go from here? Do I need a referral? What is the wait list like for the public system? What is the going rate for private therapy? Is this Medicare or PHI subsidized?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure about public, but we went to a private one and it was $65 for 30 minutes. It was not covered by Medicare. It is covered by some PHI extras policies, depending on your level coverage. the amount you would get back from PHI would vary on your cover as well.

It's like a physio etc in that you can just go without a doctor's referral.

I took DSS last year privately, it was $55, we had a referal but don't think it was needed. Our phi covered most of it, so out of pocket was $15 half hour.

We were also advised not to go public if we could afford it as they do group sessions where we are, not the one on one that we had privately.
