Default Can you freeze cooked rice and pasta

Just wanted to know if I make up a batch of food for my daughter that has cooked rice or pasta in it ( along with vegies and meat) can I then freeze it?

    yes!!!

A hint though - to prevent the pasta going mushy, cook it to just before al dente stage. The heating up will finish the cooking process.

DH is a chef and initially said no, then said in something like you describe rice might be OK, but not pasta.

Basically it will break down in the freezing/reheating process. Of course, you could try it and see how it comes out, but he wouldn't do it for our kids.

I freeze my sons spag bols and stews (with either rice or pasta) all the time. I haven't found a prob with the quality of the food once thawed out.

I cooked up a big batch of rice when I was pregnant and put it in little containers in the freezer for those first few weeks.

It's sort of ok, but a bit mushy. I don't really care though when I'm super tired and just want to eat quickly.

I'm a chef as well and at couple of places I have worked they have done it, Half cook it, than freeze into portion controls and than blanche when you need it, Obviously if you over cook it than yes it will be mushy. Also to note if your going to freeze it I would puree it all before as once you thraw it out it makes it harder to puree and the pasta goes all gluey.
