I recently got extras only from medibank and its $10.40 a week for me and my 7 yr old. I mainly wanted the dental benefits for the kid but will upgrade when finances are better to hospital etc.

I have hospital + extras for me and DD through NIB and it's about $50 a fortnight.

The thing I like the most is that NIB has its own dental clinic in the CBD near my work and there is no gap on most services for NIB members, so I get free dental check ups.

I pay around $75 a fortnight for hospital & extras for DS & I. Just a matter of shopping around to find something that suits. Like a PP said if theres a fund that has its own dental clinic near you they can often work out well because you get pretty comprehensive cover for little out of pocket expense. We have the dental clinic thingy; it's about an hour travel time each way but works out way cheaper than going to a private dentist near home.

Theres that iselect mob for PHI but sometimes worthwhile going to each fund; look at Westfund, NIB & HCF- they all seem to have fairly competitive prices.

I had both hospital and extras cover until recently costing me about $120 month. Have had to let the hospital side go as I just can't afford it anymore. I pay almost $15 fortnight for silver extras with pupa for myself.

My DD was never on my phi as the cost was way to much for me about $200 month.

    Wow I'm being ripped off. I'm a single parent and I think I'm paying $200+ a month. I think a fair bit + too!!
