I have some questions for my sister and BIL.
My BIL has been in security for quite some time.
His contracts have always been above board, on the books, taxed, and tax returns lodged.
He went for a job with another security company the other day, and they told him that none of their security guards are on the books, they are paid by the hour and it's cash in hand.
He questioned it, and they just told him it's the norm.
So, if he's getting cash in hand, what does he tell the ATO at tax time?
Does he lodged a zero tax return? How does he explain his position, and it being cash in hand?
And for my sister's side of things, how does that affect centrelink with the FTB, CCB, CCR etc?
She needs to obviously update their family income, but does she just give hers and say he's not working?
So then they'll pay her more benefits, and if he decides he doesn't like this new job, leaves and gets another job on the books, she'll have to update her income again, then run the risk of having to pay it back??
I've never heard of people being paid cash in hand these days.
I suppose some people still do it, but for an entire weeks pay??
Any info would be great, thank you in advance.
