Hi there, it will be external, unless there is a need to check something in partcular if it arises during the ultrasound- eg: at my 16 week scan, due to the position of the placenta, she needed to get a quick view via an internal. She just asked me if she could, and I said ok, and it was not at all awful. I was covered up with a sheet and the device she used was very long with a little ball on top (with the camera inside)- she didn't even have to look at the area and there was definitely no touching or anything like that. It was fine, and not at all what I was expecting- the word 'internal' conjures up certain images, but I am pleased to say, it was nothing like that! All the best
