My son knows how to play appropriately, and does the full range of play with adults. He can also socialise well with adults. He is scared of other children though, particularly large groups.
He also seems to be an introvert, and does prefer his own company and periodically needs quiet time to recharge, after being with others.
I'm not proposing that the OP does not get her child assessed, but I was answering the question as to why we haven't, as the OP asked. I answered originally as the OP lives in the same suburb as I do, and could therefore provide some local information about the public versus private options based on my recent-ish inquiries.
