    Default After birth pains?

I gave birth to my precious little girl on Tuesday via natural vaginal birth- today is day 5 and only now am I experiencing the after birth pains- can any one clarify a little more about them- ie is it normal for them to come so many days later and they obviously feel like period pain/ mild contraction. TIA

Yeah it's your uterus going back to its pre pregnancy size. Not sure on the timing though.

Congratulations on the birth of your princess :-)

Your uterus can take up to 6 weeks to go back to pre-pregnancy size, so pains can take up to that long.

Did you milk just come in? I found it was worse then.

Yes totally normal. You will find they will come stronger when you are breastfeeding.

And can get worse with subsequent births.

My mum is a midwife and was telling me she has had to administer pethadine to women who have had drug free births to deal with strong after pains.

Thanks guys, your replies were reassuring! It is worse when I did a longer feed and yes my milk came through fully yesterday so it made a lot of sense- heat pack, Panadol and a hearty dinner helped- don't think I ate enough yesterday which didn't help!
