Because IMO there is no difference between euthanasia and murder.

Definitely for. In strict circumstances where there is no hope of recovery and continuation of life just means pain and suffering.

Its so difficult when permission cannot be given, when a person has no control of their mind but their body is healthy. It is terribly degrading to the person and extremely painful for their loved ones to watch. I would not ever x 1,000,000 wish my family to see me in that state. Esp if my children were not yet adults, the thought of them having to deal with that is just unbearable.

For me it all hinges around the right to die with dignity.

Yes there is, most people who are murdered don't ask to be, and usually they are slowly dying of some awful illness....that is a massive difference.

The difference is in the intention. And that makes all the difference.

That's her opinion. I don't see euthanasia as murder or even manslaughter. I don't see putting down a dog/cat/horse who is in pain as animal cruelty.

I'd say it's more voluntary suicide if we had to compare it to something, but it's compassionate unlike murder.

    A. It is definitely heartbreaking to watch those we love in pain, but (like decent DHs when we're in labour) it can be harder to watch than go through it ourselves, especially when there is a good pain management plan / palliative care.
I'm sure people with terminal illness would beg to differ.

    C. How civilised is our society if we kill off the very young (unborn), very old and very sick when these have done no wrong and need our compassion most? It will be people with disabilities next! Yet, ironically, we don't support capital punishment (nor should we) for those society could most logically do without.
No one is saying just bump people off against their will at the first sign of illness. Euthanasia is a choice over your body. Many would argue giving someone the right to end their life is compassion.

    D. I'm unashamedly pro-life. Life is for living! We need to seize every moment and make it count. We'll only get one shot - why shorten it by a second?
This isn't about abortion. I can understand that with the pro life argument another life is involved. With euthanasia only one life is ending - yours. Yes life is for living but what happens when there's no quality of life? you seem to minimise the pain and hell people that are dying go thru. I think it's unfair to remove their rights to a peaceful death to suit your own agenda. if you don't want someone to help you end your own life in a case of terminal illness, you have that choice to keep living.

    Hi Guys and Girls

This is an incredibly emotional topic for some, so can we please make sure that we talk about it with a fair amount of sensitivity.

And can we all please make sure that we are debating the issue and not the person. Disagreeing with someone is quite ok. Insulting them because of an opinion they hold is not.

    Thanks

It's the same IMO in that the intent is the same, for someone to die the reason why has no bearing for me.

Sorry, I just don't understand. The intent is completely different. Explain to me how it is any way the same. I am not baiting at all, I'm genuinely interested.
