Default Homeopathic remedies for labour? Useful, scam?

I am having a home birth in September, and am making a list of pain relief options (birth pool, tens, sterile water injections, essential oils).

One book recommended a list of homeopathic remedies, including arnica (pain) and aconite (fear).

Has anybody tried them during labour?

I assume I would go to a homeopath and they would make them?

During my labour my doula gave me rescue remedy, you can easliy buy it at any health food shop and I really feel that it helped calm me down and keep me from being anxious... I haven't heard of any other homeopathics for labor.

Thanks. I have heard stuff like rescue remedy takes the edge off nerves. My SIL did a bushflower essence course, and I think they had one as well, Emergency Essence, I think.

I'm sorry but homeopathy, by its very definition, is a load of bullocks. Any effects that come from homeopathic remedies are purely placebo. People will try to tell you they work but basic chemistry says otherwise.

But if the effects are purely placebo then how come they work on animals? Animals dont get the placebo thing because they dont go into the treatment thinking "man, this is gonna be awesome and I'll feel waay better afterwards."

Agree! Would happily by a bottle of placebo if it meant I could avoid drugs

I think its all a scam really. I have tried rescue remedy for mild anxiety and it did nothing.. I used a baby sleep one for my daughter and it had no effects.. I just don't beleive in it at all anymore.. but I used to be really determined it would work.

The hylands teething tablets definitely worked for all my babies - at a time when they were too young for the placebo effect

If homeopathy is the treatment of like with like by using highly diluted preparations, what would you give someone in labour? I would have assumed you could only treat "conditions" or diseases with homeopathy (and that's arguably as their is no scientific proof of effectiveness).
