You know, I think that's bull. I was raised a catholic, went to catholic school, and from my interpretation, god forgives all sins.

There are plenty of horrible things in the bible that god did.
I agree, there are some things in the old testament that I wonder why god did this?

However, this is the only thing that I can back my faith on God with...

    Isaiah 55:8 NLT

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.

So to us, they may be thought of horrible things... however his thoughts are not of this world.

And for what it's worth, I am gay and I don't like being called a sinner. How would u feel if someone told you that the way you were born is a sin?
Thanks for the website i'm reading it now

    Thanks, i'll have a read.
Just for the record, I am reading and quoting from the bible.
I am not gay, so I dont know how this feels. However, I have two gay family members - both of which are christians.

As I said, I an not gay but both of my family members told me that they dont believe they were born this way. They believe that they were pushed this way. One due to constantly being told pink is for girls not boys etc. The other for being exposed to gay culture early in adolescents.

I am not saying that you are a liar and were not born this way, I am saying what I have experienced.

Now, being gay in itself is not a sin. It is the act that is. A man laying with a man as he should a woman etc.

Both of my family members have abstained from Sex as they also believe this.

That's not to say that you can't have a fulfilling life or that its not fair to gays, but everyone has hurdles in life, some just more difficult then others.

I hope I didn't cause offence as none was intended, I only pointed out that particular scripture as I was already reading that book in the bible, which I believe to he true.

I personally grew up in a Christian family, with a baptist denomination, we read the bible every day, but many different versions are available, and I've since come out as gay (since I was 20~) and after discussing the bible and doing research I believe that being gay, living with a partner and even sex with someone of the same sex, is not actually a sin or a way to be sent to hell, I'm really not sure if I believe in hell, but I know that if god were to have created us all, then he would love us for who he created us to be. And KnockKnockPenny's recent post showed a website describing discrepancies with even the first few translations of the original biblical text. But thank you knomie for you view :-)

No I'm not a Christian. I did go to a Christian High School. I just can't believe in a god where he doesnt accept everyone, even though he supposedly made them.

    Ok. ..
So if you dont believe in God, then why are you concerned with someone telling you that you were born a sinner?
For me as a believer id think it would affect me as much as someone telling me I have a tail!

    Wouldn't it?

No worries, after all this is why I started this thread as I have come across many christians having different ideas of whether hell exists or what "sends" someone there

That website is an eyeopener. I love how they explored the 'culture' of the times and the translations etc. It's certainly given me something to think about. I don't judge anyone as not being 'saved' or going to hell but I've always believed that the 'action' of homosexuality is a sin. Whether that meant that those doing it would not be saved or not is between them and God and none of my business. But I have to say that that website has given me something to think about in that regard.

    So thanks for sharing.

I am Christian. I'm a single parent, never been married. I believe that if God had an issue with homosexuality, He would not have created people who are homosexual
