We had one,it was fine. Just be prepared to mark down a lot. Oh and Don't stare too hard at people coming in,it makes them feel uncomfortable and leave quick...good luck!

And yes we advertised in the local newspaper! I have had numerous people tell me to lock the front gate to stop people coming in at 5am lol
Im wondering if it's worth it

    I would lock it...
Just be prepared when you unlock it at an appropriate time.. It will be like Myer stocktake sale in your front yard

now I'm exaggerating a little

Seriously though if you don't want to be woken up early I would be locking it.

We had someone rock up pre-dawn wanting to know if we were selling any guns or rifles.

    Um, no

I'd noticed that lots of the ads in the paper said "no early birds" so I put that in our ad. Still had people outside 1/2 hour before the advertised start time - the carport had a roller door and I just kept that down - they could all see me still lugging stuff out from inside.

It went really well, we got carried away and also sold a heap of stuff that we were going to put on Ebay (larger appliances etc) closer to when we moved - so ended up living without a few things for a couple of weeks! I was surprised at stuff that didn't sell - things like handbags, hats etc which I have always sold really easily on ebay - different buyer I guess!
