I and my children would be organ donors (well my children can decide for themselves when they are old enough). Why? I like to think that if my daughter or someone I loved needed an organ to live that there'd be one out there somewhere. To me if you're dead why not? IF it could save someone elses life?

Yep I'm an organ donor, not sure about what I'd decide if dd or ds (god forbid) died before they were able to make that decision for themselves, dp isnt an organ donor because he is diabetic they wouldn't be able to use any of his organs.

I thinks it's great that all of you can donate. Big decission about our children though. When my nephew passed my brother struggled with just allowing an autopsy to be done. I don't know if I could donate my babies organs though it would bring me joy to know they have saved another child's life.. It's sort of a bitter sweet isn't it?

yes i am a definite yes, as is my dad.

but i know my mum went and did a new will this year, making me her medical proxy. and when we talked about the 'important things' briefly, she told me she didn't want her organs donated, but she didn't know why - and that realistically, once she was dead, it was my choice anyway (to which i said...if you say that, i WILL allow them to donate your organs for live-transplants), so hoping she and i can have a proper convo about it well before she dies

A family a suburb over from me made the paper last year for organ donation. They are Jehova's Witness so will not accept organ donation or blood transfusions or anything but when the young fellow died suddenly his organs were donated to 5 local recipients, one who had just days to live without a new heart. They were willing to give because not doing so would be allowing their religious beliefs to affect and possibly kill others. Heart warming story.

What a beautiful story. I have always wondered how they cannot accept organs and transfusions. It is was my child I would throw all religious beliefs out the window.

Anyone know why Jahovas witnesses do this? Just curious
