Day 3 BT all ticked off and good to go! Next BT to track ovulation 14th. Then FET!
So I go see Peter Chen this TCM guy in Stanmore on Parramatta rd road this morning I tell him I'm starting my cycle this week and that I won't continue his Herbal medicine whilst on the hormones (as I don't like mixing in too many varibles during my treatments) but I will continue the treatment, he got so angry telling me I will miscarriage that my specialist (Dr Smith) Doesn't know what he is doing as I'm about to start cycle number 5 and still not pregnant, at this point I thought I would point out that the reason I'm doing IVF is because of Chris not me and me coming to see him was just to assist to lead up to our cycle. He kept trying to tell me that Western Medicine doesn't know what TCM does and that he knows better. After telling me again that if I don't continue taking his herbal medicine I would miscarriage and that 100s of his patience have had 700 -900 babies born from his treatment. I then decided that I will not return 1st of all 900 babies in the scheme of things is a low number considering how many babies are born, and don't tell me I'm going to miscarriage so negative. Sorry for the long post ladies, but I had to vent I was so upset I was expecting him to respect my decision but no the opposite.
He was though very dismissive of TCM when i asked is there any evidence of IVF and TCM working in conjunction with one another, and my DH said to me his a science man when we left as I was little annoyed.
He did tell me though if i felt better with the acupuncture, massage and cupping to continue with that but his tone said differently- i think he thinks its a waste of time. I feel amazing when I leave though, so I'm sticking with it.
I have asked my TCM about their thoughts and they said they are happy to support my ivf journey and to do and only do what I feel comfortable with. So if I had to do a complete new cycle I would have to seriously think if I would continue the herbs - I think I would though, as they are suppose to help with egg quality ( not sure yet though)
Long story though Eaglegirl, what I'm saying at no stage, did my TCM make me choose western medicine over chinese medicine. Also if they ever spoke to me the way they spoke to me I would have responded the same way.
I think they can work hand in hand together if the right practitioners can be found.
Zakmick I also had a discussion of Alternative medicines with my FS, and he said there is no evidence to back Naturopaths and TCM but he did admit and support aupuncture as being a helpful support for IVF. The last acupuncturist I went to who also had TCM didn't want me taking the herbal medicine whilst cycling even though she believed it wouldn't do any harm she didn't have the medical evidence to back it up and it would be my decision.
I agree we should not be put in a position to have to choose we are already vunerable and gulible when it comes to our fertility issues we will try anything and I think some of these people take advantage of us.
Eaglegirl: Nice... I am a bit of sceptic anyway. Guess this shows what I fear- they try and manipulate desperate people for more money.
You are 100% right! I fail to see how alternative medicine will help you if DH has the issue...
I've been so torn regarding adding TCM, accupuncture, naturopathy, etc to my already crazy IVF regime - i'm on so many different supplements and medications, and already see an osteopath on a semi-regular basis for back/hip issues, i can ill-afford to spend even more money on more treatments!
eaglegirl - your TCM practitioner sounds like a douchebag.
eaglegirl - that guy doesn't know what he's talking about, in addition to being out of line. Both acupuncturists I have seen have both said in a very matter-of-fact way, as if it's common knowledge & indisputable, "well, you can't do any herbs once in the stim cycle" - so it seems to be common practice to stop any Chinese herbs for a cycle. but you still do the acupuncture. I haven't done any TCM herbs or potions, just the acu. If you would like to see someone else for acu, around the same area, I went to this place in Newtown for my last cycle ... and well, I did get a BFP. Much more gentle, hippy spiritual vibe there (it is Newtown after all ).
Just by the by, but my FS was encouraging of me doing acupuncture. He said it's about the only alternative therapy that has demonstrated good results in studies & he would be very interested to see how I went.
