So I just got back from my CD8 appointment and my cycle has been cancelled. My ovaries and follies look fantastic - but my lining is only 4mm (it should be much more by today on an antagonist cycle. We went over what i'm taking and it turns out that due to some kind of mix up, i've been having 1 progesterone pessary a day instead of 1 progynova tablet per day. Apparently you are not supposed to take progesterone at all during the first half of an IVF cycle and only take it post ET as that's the only time progesterone is produced in a pregnancy/IVF cycle I feel like it's my fault as our FN had written on our plan Progynova, but i was given progestrone pessaries - both the QFG nurse and my FS didn't pick it up, it was signed off on my prescription.

So, now i'm in f*****g limbo land, i have to stop clexane and FSH and take 2 more days of cetrotide to settle my ovaries down, then in the next 1.5-2.5 weeks AF will arrive and then i go back to see how my ovaries are looking - if they are ok, we can cycle then, if not, i have to wait until late August

A small part of me feels ok about this as i've come down with a viral throat infection and bunged up nose, so i want to get better, but i'm SO P*****D OFF that there was a mix up of my medication!!!

Oh love, that SUCKS. I'm so sorry! What a silly mistake. I hope your ovaries are recovered in a few weeks - I'd hate for you to HAVE to wait when you're emotionally ready to try again. *hugs*

KandP - OMG, that is terrible. Did they even apologise? Sounds like that is totally a nurse's fault. Progesterone pessaries aren't started until the day after EPU as progesterone rises in your body after ovulation. They should have told you that when they gave it to you. That makes me really angry, you poor thing.

You're kidding? that is SOOOO wrong. So not only have you wasted a month but it's cost you $?? NO way! It's up to them to get it right not you- I seriously don't think you should pay for that cycle if you can't collect the eggs.

I don't think they would charge for the cycle, surely. If you don't even get to EPU there is no charge at my clinic.

    Thanks ladies

I did ask about the eggs and Ben said that even if they did collect them now, they'd not be mature enough... I also have to trust that if he thought we could get to EPU & freezing, he'd let me continue. Apparently they defer the costs (if i'd paid - which i hadn't yet). I have to call back at lunchtime to get the results of my BT which will confirm the high level of progesterone and Kate said that we can make another plan.

Ben also said that there will be no wasted eggs (i have 9 follicles already and i freaked out that i'd be wasting 9 precious eggs) and he said that every month a 'group' of eggs starts growing (in a natural menstrual cycle) and whatever isn't released gets reabsorbed into the ovary. This is what will happen to me now, so i won't be wasting 9 mature eggs at all, thankfully.

On a brighter note, i'm glad they picked it up now rather than at a later stage. This will also give the DHEA i'm taking more of a chance to reach its maximum effect. Ben Kroon is also lovely - he was so nice about it all and kept telling me not to apologise. I had no idea about the role of progestrone in an IVF cycle so i learned something new today!

It was definitely a stuff up though - I may have misunderstood what my FS said initially but it should have been picked up. I will take a philosophical view of this though - a few things happened that should have told me that this cycle wasn't meant to happen (sickness, DH possibly being away at EPU time)... i figure at least i'll be well and healthy by the time the next cycle arrives.
