You can do a day trip from
Las Vegas to grand canyon. I'm not sure where you would actually stay in grand canyon. Maybe south rim? We didn't go to south rim
    Cos western rim
    Is better.
I've been to both disneys and universal studios. Orlando ones are sooo much better. You also have Epcot in Orlando , wet and wild, sea world etc

I worked for Disney Cruise Lines a few years ago and therefore got free entry to the parks. I'd definitely say both Disneyland and Disney World are too much in one holiday. Disney World (Orlando) will definitely take a few days... I did one park a day (4 parks) and didn't see anywhere near all of each one and was shattered. I know that you can tie together (package) the Disney World and cruising if you're at all interested in the Bahamas and Carribean, well that was what they did a few years ago anyway.
I also go back to the thought from my own childhood.... I went to the Commonwealth Games when I was 8 (a big deal for a sports mad family) and barely remember a thing.... so I would try to do less exxy things/hold back until the kids are older. But I would love to come!!!

We did Disneyland Anaheim and universal studios in LA for our honeymoon. I agree with others that say to do one or the other. I would hazard a guess that alot of the rides would be repeated between parks with obviously disneyworld having a lot more. I think the two parks would be overkill for the kids because of the shear size and impact of them. American theme parks are 10,000 times better then ours. For example, they involve the sense of smell in a lot of rides. The Simpsons ride at universal is amazing. At one point you feel like you are inside Maggie's mouth and then a spray of baby powder scent comes out and you associate it with her being a baby. Sounds simple but has so much impact in the moment! plus there is seaworld over there too which again is probably miles ahead of our lil seaworld in oz.

I agree, doing day trip to GC from Vegas.
I also think two theme parks would be overkill- although I haven't been to either I think for the kids one is plenty- save some of your own sanity too
I have heard from many friends to spend the extra money and stay at a Disney hotel.
I'm super jealous too, hoping to do this trip ourselves in about 3-4 years
I love the US, spent 6months working at a ski resort (pre kids) and can not wait to get back there, convincing DH is hard work :/
Oh and San Fran is a must! Love that place!

Hubby and I went to America for a month for our honeymoon and we were absolutely exhausted after that time and just wanted to go home. I think that 8 weeks would be too much especially with children that age personally. I too would consider cutting it into 2 trips, East and West Coasts.
Otherwise make sure you have plenty of rest days. I wouldnt stay out at Grand Canyon either, just do a day trip from Vegas.
Apart from Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge we werent that big fans of San Fran.
San Diego was great, theres Seaworld, San Fran Zoo and the Wild Animal Park there as well as a big Navy ship and we went to the Baseball there too which was good.
So I'd consider cutting New York, Orlando, Niagra and do that in another trip. Really theres so much in New York you could just do that in itself.
Will be one amazing once in a lifetime trip thats for sure.
