I have just bought a second hand Suzuki grand vitara... Love it!

My dad is a mechanic, and I would call him to check every make and model I liked the look of, he said no to everything but the Suzuki.

My brother has a Daihatsu Rocky, and he loves it. He has found that's it's been able to do just as well if not better than some of the newer more expensive cars. We have also used it to tow a 1 tonne land cruiser 400 km with no problems. It is getting a bit old now, I think the latest model is from 1998

We used to have a Jeep Wrangler. I've got to say I hated it sorry.

I was like driving a truck, noisy, heavy and generally annoying.

    Very very thirsty too.

this is true they are like a truck..very bumpy..
The older models are the worst...mine is the new design that came out in 07..far better then the later models..less bump .noise ..and diesel is great!!! You either love a jeep or hate them ..test drive a new one and also a old..the diff is crazy!
Although for 15k I would imagine you would have to go with the old model..

We've just been looking at Jeep Wranglers, to buy a new one. Had a look on Saturday, but haven't done a test drive yet. DH likes the look, it would be 'his' car. Won't do much off-road stuff though, mostly just for going to work or out and about on the weekends. Don't know if it's crazy to sacrifice more comfortable drive for the look!!!??!?!? Anyone else got a Wrangler? We'd be getting 2012 model 4 door.
    Sorry to crash thread OP!

Rav 4! its great offroad and kept up fine with the landcruisers etc, has lots of nice features and extras with the accessory packs on some models(we had roof racks, nudge bar, central diff lock and other stuff included on ours). I loved how it is easy to get in and out of ,not too high up and the back door opens out for a great change area for bubs. They are not the most economical but any car that is constant 4wd will use more fuel and you can compare diff cars fuel consumption on www.redbook.com.au. Its nice and compact for parking and i loved the extra height viewing when in traffic plus the toyota airconditioning which is icy cold.
Only reason i sold mine is I couldnt fit 3 kids seats in the back but it sure was a great car and very reliable.

Wranglers are ok but not suited to everyone, the suspension is a bit harder as they are a true off road vehicle and with wide tyres they are not ideal for around town driving if thats all your going to do with it but great off road it was the only car that beat our Rav on the hillclimbs when we last went 4wding. Some of the older models have leaking roof issues but for a good idea try googling reviews on the model/year that you want and it will show you what to look out for.
