I am absolutely and unequivocally pro-choice. There are no ifs or buts. If a woman chooses to abort her baby, that is her choice and should always remain her choice.

I'm gobsmacked by the judgment in this thread. It's really saddening and the ignorance is astounding.

As an aside - someone mentioned that abortion should only occur for medical reasons. I hope you realise that psychological health is as important as physical health. If having a baby (or three) is going to destroy a woman psychologically (whether it be due to emotional fragility, stress, financial implications etc) and consequently adversely affect her life FOREVER, then she has every right to preserve her own quality of life, as much as a woman suffering from physical health issues.

I don't think being able to kill our babies should be a pillar that we use to judge how far we, as the female sex, have come in society.

I have no issues with it...if the mother is feeling like she will be unable to care for 3 babies ..then this may be the best choice...I know I wouldn't be able to handle triplets..

oh and on making things illiegal...I'm pretty sur ethere is a law trying to be passed somewhere in The States that makes it illegal for a woman to abort a fetus - no matter what - ..so that means even if the fetus dies in utero, she has to wait for it to pass naturally.

..I guess they don't want any 'grey areas'.

    now THAT is disturbing.

Furthermore VicPark - who are you to determine when and how a woman copes? What if a woman has a life altering event which occurs after she has fallen pregnant? What if her husband leaves or she has to declare bankruptcy or she just simply breaks down. What if this unforeseen turmoil occurs WHILE she is pregnant? Does it then suit you?

i'm pro-choice, and while i can't imagine many circumstances where i would choose to terminate [and yes, i'm not sure i could selectively reduce - even with my knowledge of the risks and the inner workings of nicu/scbu], i will still forever protect the right of women who do make those choices.

i also choose not to view the proceedure if there is a bias storyline over the top (aka, i haven't watched the 60min report). i'd hold a womans hand while she was going through it if she needed me to though.
Yep thats what I meant thanks Gandalf and ShanandBoc! You absolutely don't have to be comfortable with the procedure, it's a hard thing to deal with. What I was saying is when someone says "I am pro-choice but this should be illegal" what they're really saying is "I am pro-choice but only if you make the same decision I would." I am just absolutely flawed by the reaction to this, is it because you saw the actual procedure being done? Honestly, there is nothing different here than terminating a single healthy foetus, IVF or no IVF, but she could adopt them out?!?! She certainly could and that would be awesome and if she doesn't want to do that then thankfully we live in the 20th century where women have rights to their own body, under any circumstance.

This is why even though I'm uncomfortable with abortion, I would always fight for women's rights to choose. The thought people like you can dictate what a women should do with her body and her life makes my skin crawl.
Um... I say i do have the right to tell people that... Which is what im doing.

people like me .... that care about the lives of unborn babies. What bad bad people we are!

If a politician is ever brave enough to put their balls on the line and tighten up abortion law, then it may infact be up to people like me (that care about unborn babies).

All sad events but not reason enough for killing an unborn child. I think we both have some degree of concern for the mother and baby. The difference is, I rate the life of the innocent (baby) as higher than the rights of the mother.
