One of the things that used to bug me the most, until we stopped telling family when we were cycling, was that when we got BFN's my MIL used to get so upset (think the hiccuping wailing type of upset) that it was my DH that had to comfort her. The protective mumma bear in me used to get sooo angry, I don't care if you're upset but hold yourself together and be a mother first and support your son, you can lose it after we're gone. Anyway it was not her right to be that upset, it was our loss, not hers.

Thanks to everyone for these posts.
So many of them I can sympathise with in our TTC journey - if one more person tells me that it will just all be fine if I stop thinking about it and relax I will scream!! so unhelpful!

I think a lot is people just don't understand and say the first thing that comes into their heads. The people I have found that have known what to say on the whole have either been through it themselves or know someone else who has and are just more familiar with the whole scenario. It was the same when I suffered a miscarriage this year - some people just totally said the wrong thing - best one was "well, at least you can eat what you like again..." wow! Thanks!

Yesterday a girl we are quite good friends with who is pregnant and due 3 weeks after we were before we lost the baby told me all about how hard it has been with her morning sickness...Hmmmm

I am trying really hard not to write off the people who screw up what to say as friends but it's hard not to love the ones who say all the right things just that little bit more...DH says to be patient with them because they just don't know any better - he is such a darling and always gives me that knowing look and a hug when it happens.

I have to admit to looking back at my younger self and cringing about the number of times I have asked recently married cousins and older friends when they we're going to have babies - eeeek!

Default Most annoying things people say when you tell them you are going through IVF.

Mantha - so true. I find that I (subconsciously) don't bring up our IVF journey with any1 that has said one of the many above faux pas, especially the ones that say just relax, or have a break from IVF and it will probably just happen- WT?

Lee thats so true! I never thought of it but I do that too.

I got told the other day...

"At least if this doesnt work you can get a cool apartment in the city. I wish I had done that before I had kids because you cant do any of that stuff once they are around."

I get that the sentiment was there... But trade you your kids for an apartment any day!

    Hey there

Most annoying thing people have said 'things happen for a reason, it clearly wasn't meant to be'. This includes both failed cycles and miscarriages.

"Stop eating dairy. It causes so many problems. If you don't have dairy for a couple of months it'll make all the difference."

WTF?!? So the fertile world is on a lactose free diet and no one told me?

Oh the dumb things people say!!! I'm constantly told bullsh*t. You should ask "is that what you did"?

We are male factor an I've noticed he doesn't cop any "advice". So unfair!!

Very valid point, and you are right! We are male factor as well and yet somehow if I relaxed it would work naturally. Yep his 4 super slow swimmers have an awesome chance.
Trying to explain the maths of out chances of having a baby naturally is a waste of time I have decided, as soon a people know that he has "some" swimmers they decide we should just try naturally.

Laned I hear that all the time it's probably the most common response and certainly not helpful in any way

Grebbeci and allymumtobe I say what is natural IVF is natural for us and add people who do IVF still have S3X!
