I had a work person say that women choose their mate by their genetic profile, it's instinctual. So if you choose someone that's a dud, you didn't choose well or didn't go with your gut instinct or you sub consciously don't want children.
This wasn't said to me, it was proclaimed at a work function where there were a couple of ladies TTC. I was mortified!

    Great thread!!
Like most of you, I've had the "stop thinking about it & it will just happen" - um, when do you think that will be exactly?
"isn't IVF expensive?" - yes, very much so.
"your lucky to have the one you've got" - believe me, I know how lucky I am. I would love my daughter to have to joy of a sibling.

My personal favorite; I was at the hospital visiting a friend and her new baby. I showed her how bloated my stomach was from IVF and she said " you might be pregnant". Attempted to explain there is no way in the world I could be pregnant, but she didn't get it & kept saying "but you could be". Yep, I must be Mary.

Ugh people come out with some shockers...

Someone asked me the other day (when I told them we were doing IVF): "Have you thought about going on an all natural foods diet?"

Bearing in mind, I am just not a homeopathy/ naturopathy type person, so this made the comment even worse... With no disrespect meant to those who do follow those beliefs, he may as well have said "Have you thought about running around the oak tree 10 times at full moon on Sunday?"

What a great topic thread! I can relate to so many stupid things that have been said...

The stupidest thing I have heard is

"I know this couple, who did IVF like 8 times and still didn't get pregnant..."

I feel like asking them HOW exactly is this useful to me? Are they trying to tell me I am never going to get pregnant because of this couples terrible luck? I do have to wonder what goes through people heads sometimes...

My other Favourite is "have you thought about adoption? Maybe you were not meant to have your own children..."

    Ummm... What the...?
