Default How long was your hospital stay after birth?

I had DS in 1999. Back then, the standard stay was around 3 nights, after a complication free labour and healthy baby in a public hospital.
I've heard that this has changed and that they can send you home within hours of giving birth.

I'm due in late July and am unsure of exactly how many days I should pack clothes for (given the birth and everything afterwards is "normal").

Also, do I bring my own towels for the baby?

    Thanks

I stayed in 3 days, but have had friends go home either same day or day after. My little man stayed in neonates for 3 weeks, so not sure if it's the same on the wards, but they supplied everything. I just had to bring clothes for him to go home in.

Are you going public, private or birth centre?

I believe the minimum stay is 2 hours but I havnt heard of a maximum.

I stayed 6 days after the birth of my girls. I think if I was there one day longer they probably wouldve started asking questions.

I went public and all I had to provide was clothes&wraps. Nappies, wipes, baby bath & blankets/sheets/towels were provided by the hospital.

I stayed in for 5 days for a normal vaginal delivery and my DS also spent 3 weeks in neonats, we didn't supply anything until home time.. Clothes towels nappies were all supplied.
I would just pack enough for 3 days then if you need extra someone can bring it for you.. Better to have more than not enough.

2 days with ds1, 1 day with ds2, and 2hrs with ds3, stay as long as you feel comfortable.

I'm going to a public hospital.
Wow, a minimum of 2 hours? Far out! I could hardly move 2 hours after DS!

With DD1 I was in hospital for 22 hours.
With DD2 I was determined to stay longer, but I booked out the day after giving birth, I just couldn't be away from DD1 and DF for that long. I spent the night in hospital crying coz I missed my own bed and my little family.

3 nights, and that was a natural, drug free delivery with no tearing. I hemorrhaged afterward, and was hooked up to an iv for the first 36 hours or so. I'm not sure if my stay would have been shorter if it weren't for that.

I was really hoping for an early discharge this time (hospital has a minimum of 4 hours), but in light of recent events, I'm thinking I will be there at least 3-4 days

    2005 - 5 days after a vaginal birth with 2nd degree tearing
2009 - 1 day. I was itching to be out of there within 15 hours of DS's birth but had to wait for paediatric team to release us so was probably closer to 24 hours after birth. I was so cranky - just wanted to get out of there!
