    I was actually just thinking this when I put my alls cooker on this morning. I've only had mine a few months and have always stirred but for some reason today I thought 'should I be doing this?'

    Really? I cook 6-8 hour low heat and stir every half an hour or so.

    More if on high

    Don't stir and for casseroles, etc. root vegetables should be placed on bottom, other vegetables in between and meat on top.

    I have loads of slow cooker books, but what I find annoying is a lot of recipes tell you to brown meat first! But the point of having a slow cooker IMO is the convenience of just being able to chuck everything in and leave it, so I rarely use those recipes

    I bought the one that you sear on the stove top (in the slow base) and then transfer to the slow cooker

    Yup..can also make your meat less tender if you keep lifting the lid
