...I really have only had the normal routine tests done. It's just that ive had to wait between 1-2.5 weeks for the results of each because they either
a)loose my results,
b)cant get an appt time i request.
c) i seem to be told to make a seperate appt for every referal/scan/blood test/results.
I want the NT scan, for my own piece of mind. I dont want it worrying me in the back of my mind. I want to be prepared as best i can, if i am in some way or another at high risk. I went thru my first pregnancy regretting not having it done. I worried all the time and just hoped she was going to be "normal". She was infact, perfect. I dont want that bothering me this time.
I can not circumnavigat the gp as the maternity ward also want a dating scan done before 1st trimester scan. A DR needs to refer you to antenatal care apparently!. They informed me it has all changed and they do alot more tests now compared to just last year!
Sounds like bs to me. Some girls dont know they are pregnant until they are 4 or 5 months... They arent going to turn those girls away and they sure as hell dont have a dating scan. They have a duty of care and can not turn antone away. The maternity system in this country is bollocks. Time to start writing cranky letters if i were you! Sorry you have all this frustration x

i know how u feel, just think if ur going to a normal hospital and not a private hospital you will be waiting up to 3 hours for your appointments. I was with the royal for my first pregnancy and waited 4 hours for a appt once it was hell. My doctors were about the same in wait times even if u had a appointment it was hell. So now im with a private doctor as i have a 15 min wait time and im on shared care. Yes it cost money that we dont really have right now but its so worth it.
It sounds to me like he milking his patients for money. When I went for my first ever appointment I got the blood test referral. They rang 2 days later to the say the levels were nice and booked another appointment for me over the phone. That was at about 4 weeks. I went back at 8 and got the referral for an early dating scan. We didn't want the NT test though.
Each checkup he would give me the paperwork for the 20 scan, the referral for the GD test etc. When I walked out the receptionist booked me another time that fitted with when I needed the next pre natal appointment.
Some drs are like this. They like you to keep making appointments for each and every little step, bc to put it bluntly they get paid more. Why write you the referrals while you there, when they can let you walk out without it and you have to reschedule a week later?
I'd be getting another dr... and shared care is where you can have several pre natal appointments with the middies. I did this and I loved it. It allows you to get to know them better.
Does your local hospital have a pregnancy care service? They did everything for me. I got the referral for the NT scan, all the bloodtests, etc from the midwife at the PCS.
Hey its when u can do all of your check ups with your normal Gp, Or if your doctors have a trained midwife or someone who specialises in pregnancy. You can tell your hospital at any time that you want to do shared care. I was waiting around at the hospital for hours first time around, I am def not doing that again!
